According to Everett Rogers, compatibility increases the speed of adoption of an innovation. In other words, compatibility adds substantial value to an innovation in the eyes of the client -- and incompatibility deducts value from that offering. Although compatibility is often being regarded as a correspondence to technical specifications, it can and should mean much more than that. It also means being compatible with business habits, country law, and client policies. Or on a more abstract level, with the mission and values of a company.

'Good to great' from Jim Collins, and other business books nowadays mention that real succesful companies are passionate about what they are doing. So, in order for a supplier to be succesful, it is high time to be compatible with the client's passion.
